Choice 3 : Guide to our Pump Sizing Key
To make it easier for our customers to select the appropriate size pump for there Rainwater Storage Solution we have developed a ‘sizing key’ to make selection straight forward. Simply determine which description below has points that match your Rainwater Storage Solution and select a pump with the same sizing key. If you wanted slightly more pressure from your pump, select a pump one size higher. Alternatively, you can contact us and our staff will assist with your selection.

Grade 1 Pumps
For irrigation pumps
Capable of running 1 tap within 10 meters of the tank and 1 length of garden hose. Suitable for hand watering of the garden and washing the car. Flow and pressure will be less then a regular garden tap, so only but the most basic drip irrigation system will run properly.

For mains backup pumps
Grade 1 pumps are not recommended for Mains backup systems.

Grade 2 Pumps
For irrigation pumps
  • For homes where a tap will be installed at the front and rear of the home.
  • For homes where only one tap is to be run off the pump but is located more then 10 meters from the tank, but no more then 20 meters.
  • Using one tap at a time will yield pressure and flow to match that of regular town water.
  • Using two taps simultaneously will yield slightly less pressure to each tap but still be adequate for watering the garden and washing the car.
  • Recommended for irrigation systems where only 1 zone will be run at a time. If the property is sloped, and the irrigation system is significantly higher then the pumps location, this pump may be too small to perform the task adequately.

For mains backup pumps
  • For single level homes where toilets, the laundry and garden taps are to be connected to the pump.
  • Any one appliance or tap can be run with near town water pressure.
  • Multiple appliances or taps may be run simultaneously. However, pressure to each will fall proportionally.
  • A limit of 1 irritation zone at any one time is recommended if the washing machine is to be used while irrigating.

Grade 3 Pumps
For irrigation pumps
  • For homes where multiple taps are to be installed.
  • For homes where there are long distances to the furthest taps. Distances of up to 30 meters on a flat property and 20 meters on a property where there may be up to 3 meters difference in height between the pumps location and the highest tap.
  • Using one tap at a time will yield pressure and flow to match that of regular town water even at the furthest tap.
  • Using two taps simultaneously will yield slightly less pressure but pressures will still be stronger then running 2 taps using a Grade 2 pump.
  • Recommended for irrigation systems where multiple zones will be run simultaneously. A maximum of 3 zones can be run at any one time with adequate pressure to each. If the property is sloped, then depending on the degree of difference between levels, the number of zones that may be run simultaneously will vary.

For mains backup pumps
  • For double level homes where toilets, the laundry and garden taps are to be connected to the pump.
  • Any one appliance or tap can be run with town water like pressure.
  • Multiple appliances or taps may be run simultaneously with good levels of pressure to each. However, pressure to each will fall proportionally.
  • A limit of 1 irritation zone at any one time is recommended if the washing machine is to be used while also irrigating.

Grade 4 Pumps
For irrigation pumps
  • For homes where multiple taps are to be installed.
  • For homes where complex or large irrigation systems are to be installed and run off the pump.
  • For homes where there are long distances to the furthest tap. Up to 40 meters on a flat property and 30 meters on a property where there may be up to 5 meters difference in height between the pumps location and the highest tap.
  • Using two taps simultaneously will yield pressure and flow to match that of regular town water even at the furthest tap.
  • Using more then two taps simultaneously will yield proportionally less pressure at each outlet.
  • Recommended for complex/large irrigation systems where multiple zones will be run simultaneously. A maximum of 4 zones can be run at any one time with adequate pressure to each. If the property is sloped, then depending on the degree of difference between levels, the number of zones that may be run simultaneously will vary.

For mains backup pumps
  • For double level homes where toilets, the laundry and garden taps are to be connected to the pump.
  • Any two appliances or taps can be run simultaneously with town water like pressure.
  • Multiple appliances or taps may be run simultaneously with good levels of pressure to each. However, pressure to each will fall proportionally.
  • A limit of 2 irritation zones at any one time is recommended if the washing machine is to be used while also irrigating.

Grade 5 Pumps
For irrigation pumps
  • For homes where multiple taps are to be installed.
  • For homes where complex or large irrigation systems are to be installed and run off the pump.
  • For homes where there are long distances to the furthest tap. Up to 50 meters on a flat property and 40 meters on a property where there may be up to 7 meters difference in height between the pumps location and the highest tap.
  • Using two taps simultaneously will yield pressure and flow greater then regular town water even at the furthest tap.
  • Using more than two taps simultaneously will yield proportionally less pressure at each outlet.
  • Recommended for complex/large irrigation systems where multiple zones will be run simultaneously. A maximum of 5 zones can be run at any one time with adequate pressure to each. If the property is sloped, then depending on the degree of difference between levels, the number of zones that may be run simultaneously will vary.

For mains backup pumps
  • For up to three level homes or double level homes where the tanks location adds a extra level of height to the pumps task and where toilets, the laundry and garden taps are to be connected to the pump.
  • Any three appliances or two taps can be run with greater then town water pressure.
  • Multiple appliances or taps may be run simultaneously with good levels of pressure to each. However, pressure to each will fall proportionally.
  • A limit of 3 irritation zones at any one time is recommended if the washing machine is to be used while also irrigating.
